خودروهای تولید فولکس‌واگن آلمان همیشه در مورد مصرف سوخت در مقایسه با سایر خودروها، آمار خوبی را به جای گذاشته‌اند؛ اما گویا خودروساز ملی آلمان هنوز راضی نبوده و درصدد بهبود عملکرد موتورهای خود است؛ چراکه این کمپانی درپی بهینه‌سازی مصرف سوخت خودروهای خود به میزان 15 درصد تا سال 2020 خواهد بود.

براساس اطلاعات اولیه منتشر شده در این مورد که توسط هانس‌یاکوب، رئیس توسعه گروه فولکس‌واگن ارائه شده است، این کمپانی در بخشی از برنامه‌ی خود برای کاهش مصرف سوخت، در نظر دارد تا از یک گیربکس ۱۰ دنده‌ی دو کلاچه اتوماتیک استفاده کند. این گیربکس در برخی از خودروهای سال 2015 که از الگوی تقسیم نیرو در چرخ‌های جلو یا عقب بهره خواهند برد، مورد استفاده قرار خواهد گرفت. با استفاده از این گیربکس می‌توان گشتاوری را در حدود 500 نیوتن‌متر به دست آورد که قادر است تا نیروی مورد نیاز برای به حرکت درآوردن گلف R400 سوپر جی‌تی‌آی که در تصویر فوق ملاحظه می‌کنید، را تأمین کند. چنین گیربکسی قادر است تا با بهینه‌سازی کارکرد موتور و استفاده‌ی بهینه از دورهای پایین موتور، مصرف سوخت را بصورت بسیار بهینه‌ای کاهش دهد که تأثیری در نیروی تأمین شده‌ی موتور نخواهد داشت.
